Establishing an art gallery in a 100-year old Federal Building has definitely presented its challenges. This week we planned to install the cabling system that will display artwork in the gallery. The cabling system has a frame that goes along the ceiling at the top of the wall and cables with hooks hang down from the frame to hold the paintings. The system is designed just for this purpose so everything should go as planned, right?
The good news is we have a fabulous intern who, like any good Eagle Scout, won’t ever back down from a challenge. The bad news is, no two of the walls in this odd space seems to be built from the same materials. Let’s just say Andrew’s perseverance won the day despite crumbling concrete walls. Nothing good problem solving, collaboration and a few trips to the hardware store couldn’t solve. It just took a tad longer than we hoped.
Our first priority is for everything to be secure so we did whatever it took to make sure the frame will hold the weight of the artwork which meant getting insight from many different sources. After a day or so with chin in hand trying to figure out how we would conquer this beautiful old building, we successfully and securely installed the system. Up next…the art!
