What is a rainbow to you? What do you see? How do you feel? For Jennifer Christy, a rainbow is this multilayered concept of what is found after a wild and crazy summer storm.
“After the Storm” began with spray paint, tape, and charcoal and ended with the story of a summer rainbow. The circles and filled in areas that she created with charcoal guided the form of the piece. With each sharp turn and splatter of the black and white paints, the crash of a thunderstorm reverberates through the painting. The circular forms and vertical lines fall into the piece as rain falls from a storm. Grays, blues, blacks, and whites have their presence in the painting, but the pinks, reds, and yellows guide the story onward to the calming end of the storm.
Jennifer Christy used the “Push Play” series to help her out of a creative dry spell. She was able to explore her raw creativity and discover her own peace after the storm.
