Since the age of 10, Gustavo Castilla has been practicing his skills in art photography and the historic processing techniques of his pieces. As he entered into his teen years, he began to hone his craft by attending workshops and working at a small advertising agency. Castilla’s work was first published in a newspaper in Mexico City where he also wrote a column about music.
In Hollywood, Gustavo studied cinematography at Columbia College. Much of his work at this time focused on creating celebrity photography in magazines such as Time, Hola, and Figaro. After his studies, Castilla began to work in the area of portraiture, editorial, social, and event photography. While exploring these types of photography, he began to develop an interest in still life and environmental portraiture.
Gustavo has settled into his own style of fine art photography by using historical processing techniques to develop his photographs. Castilla’s photography features Cyanotype, Platinum, Kallitype, Ambrotype, and Tintype processing.
