The SEAD Gallery is excited to announce the new “Abstract Expressionist Texas” exhibit, featuring artists Thomas M. Cavaness and John Krajicek, opens this Thursday, June 16, with a public reception in the gallery from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. The exhibit remains in the gallery until August 13.
Both Krajicek and Cavaness live in the Bryan-College Station area and are active in the art community here. Cavaness is a professional fine art framer and artist by trade, with works on display internationally and in the US. Krajicek works as a professor at Texas A&M University and is also a musician. Although an artist at a young age, local artists inspired Krajicek to take up painting again about two years ago. His first art show was held at the Village Café in Downtown Bryan.
Although the two artists’ works fall under the category of “abstract expressionism,” Cavaness says not to expect their art to be too similar.
“That’s the great thing about abstract expressionism. While it’s non-objective, it’s usually deeply personal to the individual artist,” Cavaness said. “We’re all enveloped under this one umbrella of abstract expressionism, [but] the only thing we have in common is that we have nothing in common, with this or any other kind of style.”
