A lot of the time we walk into galleries in awe of the beautiful artwork that stands before us. When we have the luxury of asking the artist what their work means or says, we often hear an answer very different from our own interpretation. Does this mean that our interpretation is wrong? Not necessarily. Art is one of those things that can have a multitude of meanings and interpretations. Certain art pieces may speak directly to us while others may leave us a little confused… and that’s okay. In today’s blog, we talk about a variety of ways in which art “talks” and provide a peek into the mindset of an artist. We teamed up with our “Intersections” artists and asked them, “If your art could talk, what would it say to the world?”. Here’s what they said:
“What do I remind you of?” -Jayde Archbold
“If my work could talk I hope it would say something good, calming and loving.” -Judy Row
If my work could talk it would say, “Try looking at things in a different way. Even the ordinary can be extraordinary.” -Lynn Williams
“Isn’t the world around us such an interesting or beautiful or notable (in some way) place? Look what’s out there, just waiting (often asking, even shouting) to be noticed.” -Laurie Schlitter
“My intent is that the observer find their own meaning in my work, regardless of the conditions that lead to its creation or how it is rendered. If my work could talk, it would ask what the world sees in it.” -John Vesel
“Products are for profit. Art is for living.” -Kim Paxson
