Step into a world of pattern and pastels with the talented Anna Swanson.
Anna has been living and breathing art all of her life. Her childhood as the daughter of chefs and artists fed her creativity, eventually leading to her studying fiber art and textiles at Texas State University, earning a BFA in the process. Though she has experience in a wide range of mediums, her mediums of preference are acrylic, paper, embroidery, and canvas. She has been featured in a number of different galleries, including the Austin Art Garage & Gallery and the Greenbox Art & Culture. Currently, she teaches elementary art from her home studio, sharing her passion for art by helping the younger generation hone their own artistic inclinations.
Anna receives inspiration from a number of places, including the West Texan, Mexican and Coloradan landscapes she experienced during her travels. Her influences shine through in this collection, and each painting is a colorful creation full of light, perfectly soothing in their choices of pale colors and fluid brush strokes. Depictions of desert plant life are often arranged in semi-symmetrical patterns, making her collection feel familiar in how it is inspired by her early studies of “fabric design, fashion illustration, and textiles,” yet distinctive in how it blends reality with the abstract. In her own words, she seeks to “incorporate a sense of playfulness” into her paintings, something she accomplishes with flying colors.
We here at the SEAD Gallery are honored to be hosting Anna Swanson in a multi-artist exhibition, which will be on display until November 10th. We invite you to join us for the opening reception on September 20 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm for an evening hors-d’oeuvres, fine wine, an opportunity to speak with the three artists in person. Attendees will be able to purchase raffle tickets throughout the evening for a chance to win a framed Swanson piece from the exhibit. All of the ticket proceeds will go to benefit Houston K911 Rescue, a Houston based non-profit who seeks to better the lives of street dogs by providing them with medical treatment and placing them into safe and loving home environments.
We encourage you to join us at this local, community event as we welcome Anna Swanson to the SEAD Gallery. For more information, click here.
