Dawn Winter is an Austin-based artist whose love for layers and texture shows through in her paintings.
Although painting is her passion, becoming an artist had not crossed her mind until she visited an art museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico 14 years ago. “I increasingly became enthralled and intrigued by the paintings. And, surprisingly, I found myself wanting to try my hand at painting.” Upon returning to Austin, she found herself wanting to experiment with paint and discovered it was the perfect escape from her busy life. Since then, Dawn’s work has been awarded in art contests and has been featured in multiple art galleries. She has also collaborated with interior designers to create pieces that complement clients’ living spaces and has even had her work shown on HGTV. Her passion has opened many opportunities for her, and she is excited to see where it will take her next.
Dawn uses acrylic paint and palette knives to create works with texture and depth. Her use of layers and bold and muted colors create a balance of colors, motion, and patterns. Each painting is different and is approached in a different way. “Sometimes I have a sense of the direction I want to take the painting. With others, I follow the path the painting insists on taking.” She enjoys the goal – less and unpredictable nature of painting, and finds a sense of freedom in putting paint to canvas.
The SEAD Gallery is honored to be featuring Dawn’s work in our newest exhibit, along with works by artists John Krajicek and Cameron Sands. This exhibit will be on display from March 21st to April 17th. The SEAD Gallery will be hosting the exhibit opening on March 21st at 6:30, and we invite you to join us.
