We here at the SEAD Gallery are honored to be hosting Mirka Hokkanen and Coleen Bradfield in our “Walk on the Wild Side” exhibit from May 16th to July 17th. Both Mirka and Coleen draw off nature to create their beautifully inspired pieces.
Mirka Hokkanen currently resides in Hawaii but has travelled the world for many years. She was born and raised in Finland and then studied art in both Rockford Illinois and Dallas Texas. These wide varieties of nature have influenced her as a printmaker, designer, illustrator, author and of course as an artist. Mirka is driven by her curiosity and wonder that is reflected in her work. She is also an active member of the art community. She not only creates a wide range of artwork but also teaches and organizes events within the community. We would also like to congratulate Mirka on the publication of her first illustrated book, Four Otters Toboggan: An Animal Counting Book, that was released in March 2019.
Coleen Bradfield has admired art her whole life. This admiration eventually translated into the creation of her own amazing pieces. Coleen attended Ohio State University, where she studied Fine Art, and Florida Institute of Technology, where she completed her degree in Science. Although Coleen chose to follow a career into the world of science, she has luckily found time for her passion of creating art. Coleen dabbles in both painting and sculpting. In regards to her paintings, they recently have leaned toward a more abstract style that allows her to emphasize pattern and her love for nature. Coleen’s love of art can be seen in her creations along with the work that she does for the art community all over.
We are thrilled to be hosting Mirka Hokkanen and Coleen Bradfield here at the SEAD Gallery. We invite you to the opening reception for this exhibit, “Walk on the Wild Side,” on Thursday, May 16th from 6:30-9:00pm. Come explore the wonder of nature and wildlife as illustrated by these artists in their expressive pieces.
